Safety and Endurance Awards
Candidates learn simple rescue techniques involving minimum risk to the rescuer and focusing on developing water safety skills and assessing accident situations.
Rescue Awards
Candidates learn the dangers of swimming rescue techniques involving personal contact with various types of casualty, and how to make effective releases from victim grips and clutches using their water safety knowledge, judgement, skills and fitness.
Lifeguard Qualifications
Following the completion of the Water Safety Ireland lifesaving awards, successful candidates are ready and able to progress to more advanced courses such as the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and the National Beach Lifeguard Qualification, and competent students are encouraged to consider further training to become an Water Safety Ireland Instructor themselves.

SAFETY 1
Prerequisites: 12yrs old. Swim 4 consecutive lengths of Pool
Exam: Pool Test
Length of Course: It may be possible to complete up to safety 3 in one term
depending on groups ability and commitment.
SAFETY 2
Prerequisites: 12yrs old. Have completed Safety 1
Exam: Pool Test
Length of Course: It may be possible to complete up to safety 3 in one term
depending on groups ability and commitment.
SAFETY 3
Prerequisites: 12yrs old. Have completed Safety 2
Exam: Pool Test
Length of Course: It may be possible to complete up to safety 3 in one term
depending on groups ability and commitment.
SAFETY 4
Prerequisites: 12yrs old. Have completed Safety 3
Exam: Pool and CPR Test (Basic Life Support 1)

New candidates must start the training at Safety 1 regardless of ability, unless they have completed Water Safety Ireland Awards somewhere else and have valid certificates.
Once candidates are 16yrs old they are eligible to do a Water Safety Ireland Pool Lifeguard Course which qualifies them as a Pool Lifeguard.
